Varanasi India Art Print

Take step into another time and place with this antique art print of Varanasi, India from the 19th century, done in an impressionist style. Whether you’re a traveler, Hindu, Buddhist, or admirer of natural beauty, it’s not hard to appreciate this rendition of the holiest city in India and Hinduism on the holiest river in the world. Though apparently Varanasi is the favored city of Shiva the Destroyer, so you might want to grab a picture of it before he has a bad day or something.

The original was done by E.T. Compton, an English-born German artist, illustrator and mountain climber and all-around really interesting personality. While establishing first ascents of dozens of mountains all over the world, he made a name for himself painting alpine landscapes and far-off destinations in an impressionist style.
